The papers in this panel explore how religion is embodied and materialized across diverse contexts and faith traditions, including participant-produced photographs, Sikh communities, the Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi, and women in the AME Church. Panelists include Gustavo Morello, Gaelle Bargain-Darrigues, Simranjit Steel, Angela Bernardo, and Jualynne E. Dodson.

Race and Politics in White Christianity

The papers in this panel explore how whiteness shapes Christianity on the right and the left, including Christian nationalism, racial justice movements, gun ownership, and preaching about racism. Panelists include Rebecca David-Hensley, David Sikkink, Michael Grigoni, and Shayla Olson.

Measuring Nonreligion: Innovative Methodologies and Critical Perspectives

The papers in this panel investigate the experiences and identities of the religiously unaffiliated using a variety of methods, including Black “Nones,” secular American Muslims, online atheist communities, and long-distance running. Panelists include David M. Bell, Willie Cartwright, Besheer Mohamed, Tim Kinnear, and Kristin Graff-Kallevag.

The papers in this panel evaluate the use of quantitative analysis in studying religion across diverse contexts, including Catholic women, LGBTQ+ rights, campus climate surveys, and the Covid-19 pandemic. Panelists include Tracy McEwan, Kathleen McPhillips, Steven James, Cari Myers, Roshawnda Derrick, Hannah Gruenenthal, and Kerstin Radde-Antweiler.

Understanding Religion in Public Life: Religion in Civic, Health, and Museum Settings

The papers in this panel explore the public manifestations of religion in various contexts, including religious and civic organizations, public health science, and museums. Panelists include Valentina Cantori, Kalpesh Bhatt, Trevor Linn, and Tyler Fuller.
We also invite you to join us for our business meeting on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 10:30-11:00am, which is at the tail end of our 9:00-11:00am panel on embodiment. We would love to hear your ideas for next year's CFP! Additionally, one of our steering committee members is cycling off this year, so we welcome you to contact us about participating in our unit or serving on the steering committee.
