Subject: Call School and Religious Identities

Dear Colleagues

Scuola Democratica, a leading journal for research, analysis and
discussion on education and learning, announces a Call for papers on
Schools and Religious Identities: Challenges and Dilemmas of the New
Millennium. Scholars from different disciplines and field of studies
are invited to submit papers to be published on October 2017, in a
Special Issue edited by Mara Benadusi, Valeria Fabretti  and Luca
Salmieri.
The Special Issue aims at exploring and analyzing issues related to
the impacts of religious diversity on education and the different
reactions by school systems worldwide. School governance and concrete
solutions addressing (or neglecting) pluralism are expected to be
critically interpreted using thick theoretical frames and in link with
broader topics such as: the interpretations of the religious and the
secular in the frame of multiple modernities; the interpretative
schemes about the role of religion in the public sphere; the way
religion is performed in youth cultures  and by second generation
young immigrants according to different paths in social integration
(or exclusion) and political socializations; the way religion
interacts with gender issues on the educational ground; the broad
educational philosophies and ideas about school normative aims in the
contemporary scenario.

Proposals, written in English, can be either theoretical or empirical.
Case studies related to specific contexts or comparative
researches/analyses would be both welcomed. Multidisciplinary
approaches referring to sociology, history, anthropology, political
science, psychology, pedagogy, childhood studies, ethics and
philosophy are very appreciated.

Abstract (max 300 words) must be submitted to:
redazione@PROTECTED Deadline for abstracts: 15th January
2017. The Call for paper is attached.
