Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Today is Malcolm X's birthday. He would have been 91 years old today had he not been assassinated on that cold day in February, 1965. Malcolm X was murdered in the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem, just before he spoke to a crowd of supporters in which, undoubtedly, he was going to shine a very bright spotlight on the mendacity and hypocrisy of race relations in America - a situation that still plagues our nation still today.
In recognition of Malcolm X's life, work and unfortunate assassination, Seyed Javad Miri and I have edited a book entitled Malcolm X: From Political Eschatology to Religious Revolutionary. The hardcover will be available this month from Brill Publishers and within a year the paperback will be published by Haymarket Books in Chicago. It was a labor of love to work on this important volume with all the great scholars that contributed to it. I believe I speak for the group when I say: as Malcolm X has enriched our lives, I can only hope this book has repaid that debt, if only a little.
